Welcome to Bot Club

Bot Club is an opportunity for middle school and high school students to interact with mentors and others further along the engineering, science, and technology career paths. Bot Club participants will meet in informal settings on a monthly basis to share ideas, discuss solutions/methods, and further the development of the current club project. Spread the word with this flyer.

Next Meeting: May 14th at 6:30pm, location: Southwood campus of Grace Bible Church

Re: Voice Your Opinion to Help Make BotClub Yours

Just a couple of thoughts:

While I like the thought of integrating SketchUp, I am not sure that with the overall group and participation we have, as well as the lack of experience in its use, that we will be able to develop a full drawing of the club robot, at least through student only efforts.  I have a feeling that it will take quite a bit of mentor and other "experts" time to get all the compenents drawn to dimensions and able to mesh with each other.  I may be wrong on this, but throwing it out there anyway.  Maybe an option is to have the groups draw things out by hand and then do some of the drawing through small groups, each with a mentor, at the montly meetings.

As far as the monthly meetings, i think there should be some more hands-on participation with the students.  I know my group are young enough that most of the background as far as the basic engineering (electrical, motor theory, etc...), as important as it is, is mostly lost on them, at least without some sort of applied hand-on reinforcement.  What sort of hands on?  I am not sure, but am still thinking and will try to provide feedback as I can, and am happy to discuss it with anyone.

Our group has not stepped up and taken on any of the club components yet, but are will to do so, but figure we need others to do so as well in order to coordinate design of all components.  We have a small group (3-6 kids), but figure we can make it work.

That's all for now.  Looking forward to being involved and have a tank battle royale.

Thanks again to the guys keeping this thing going.  We will do out best to be more involved as we move forward.

This is an introduction to continuous track systems. The diagram on slide 9 is of particular importance since it contains the terminology for the basic track components. [the Rube Tank video that was shown can be found here]
