Practice Day Schedule (Oct 17th)
Friday, October 16, 2009
Practice Day is upon us. Hopefully, your robot is ready to roll. The game floor will be available at the JCPenney court in Post Oak Mall from 1pm-4pm (maps . Teams can begin check in around 12:45. Things to consider:
- All teams must submit their design notebook (and team demographic form) before we leave the mall (4pm)...whether your robot makes an appearance at Practice Day or not.
- There will not be power available for power tools. There will be a station where some batteries can charge. However, since there will not be many outlets, you should make sure that all your batteries are charged before you arrive.
- Remember to turn your controller off on Friday night and plug it in for a good charge.
- Even if your robot isn't ready, bring what you have and make it a 4-hour workday right there at the mall.

More details regarding Kickoff
Friday, September 11, 2009
[Spread the word, we still have room for more teams. Prospective coaches should show up and talk to me there.]
Team checkin is officially at 8:30am. But, we'll need everyone in the Auditorium ready to learn at 8:45. So, bigger teams should get there a bit before 8:30 and no teams should dilly-dally much in the parking lot. The Bryan Civic Center faces Coulter street in Bryan. SFA middle school shares the same campus immediately behind the Civic Center. Please park in the Civic Center parking lot and enter the building from the parking lot side of the building (NOT the front of the building).
Students have the choice of four 90 minute mini-courses to attend:
-
BRAIN programming: This year, the robots can send signals to the field to impose their will. But, only if you custom program the BRAIN (C language)
-
Kit and BEST AWard information for Rookies.
-
Game/Simulation Techniques: Learn a simple computer language to create simulations where your team can test various game strategies (or just have fun programming).
-
3D modeling in Google Sketchup: . Using sketchup as a visualization tool will be invaluable as your team explores this game in detail.
Please come with a plan of which students will attend which class. Though the other classes are limited to 2 persons/team, the Google Sketchup class has unlimited seating.

Getting Geared Up
Monday, August 31, 2009
Spread the word, Brazos BEST 2009 is officially ON. We were pretty sure that funding and volunteerism would be insufficient, but a new volunteer stepped up at the last minute and rustled up some additional sponsors. So, get your team registered and ready for the September 12 (Saturday) kickoff. We're also short of teams, so feel free to reach out to schools that you know haven't participated in a while.
Because we were not really expecting to have a season, the rest of us volunteers are really behind getting things ready...this includes webmaster duties. Please be patient with the website updates. We'll get to them as we can.
