We're aiming for next week. If I were you, I certainly wouldn't wait for them. Using the drawings, you should be able to make quick mockups using cardboard.
Having the exact plane in hand when generating your conceptual designs will
actually be detrimental. It is more important that your design be able to handle uncertainty in the airplanes attributes...In the real world, you never know all the specifications precisely. Narrowing your design focus to only accomodate an exact target is one the most sure ways to fail in the marketplace.
If I were mentoring your team, I would recommend that the team make several planes from the drawings...it would be great practice at interpreting engineering specifications.
